Lemmy account of Voxel, for more information see:
I would tbh recommend to just switch to DNS-based blocking by changing your DNS provider in the Android settings (“Private DNS”).

I don’t think Google “search” is has a 99% marketshare, it is probably less.

Vivaldi is much better than Chrome, Edge, Opera, etc.
But not on the same level as Brave.
(in the scope of Chromium-based browsers)

Vivaldi is a thousand times better than Opera. Their CEO formally worked for Opera.

Your perception of reality seems very limited and partially falsified.
It is also unrelated to my statement.
Take a look at for example European legislation.

Little reminder: the GDPR has been in effect since May 25, 2018.
Under Art. 21(5) GDPR, automated opt-out signals like DNT and GPC have to be respected. That applies to everyone providing services in the EEA.
So most of to who it applies to should already have done it since 2018.
It will happen if nobody does something about it. And doomsayers like you only contribute to it; it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Edit: Ever heard of spoofing? Brave does it to circumvent blocks.
Passkeys themselves are a very good security measure, better than a password plus 2FA via TOTP apps.
But having your passkey tied to a specific device with a specific operating system or an untrustworthy provider like Google, Microsoft, or Apple is not a good idea. You should avoid those and try to use a hardware key with passkey support or a password manager instead.

BlueMoon and Periodical can also be found on the F-Droid app store, no need for Google Play Services:
https://f-droid.org/packages/ch.nilsgrob.android.bluemoon
https://f-droid.org/packages/de.arnowelzel.android.periodical
Same for Germany, and I think even the whole EU.

For clarity, that is not an EU demand to implement ID-Verification, but rather X using it as an excuse to do so.
No, it only lets you change it to those whitelisted by the OS, which is by default only the Android System Webview. Maybe its AOSP variant too. On older Android versions also Chrome, I don’t know if this is still the case with newer ones.

You know something goes too far when Google, and Meta speak out against it.
They also spoke against the denial of the volunteer Chat Control in the EU and said they will do it anyway (likely illegal).
You can’t change the System WebView unless you use root or an alternative Android distro that allows you to change it, like Iodé does.
The Android System WebView by Google is hardcoded into an internal list as one of the very few allowed ones.
