How many TB do you need? Hard drives are cheap. Just get two in a mirror so if one dies you can replace it without data loss. If you want something, you gotta pay for it. Your issue is that you pretend that your solutions are universal. A local harddrive/NAS is not sufficient to prevent data loss.
