Plenty of dictatorships around the world treat foreign tourists well enough. The special thing about the US is that they seem to be happy to treat even tourists like shit. For example “German tourists’ ordeal reportedly ending as they are returned from US detention”:

Jessica Brösche, a 29-year-old tattoo artist from Berlin, will reportedly join Lucas Sielaff, 25, from Bad Bibra in Saxony-Anhalt, who is reported to have returned to Germany on 6 March, after being arrested at the Mexican border on 18 February before being detained for almost two weeks.

The families of the two tourists, who were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), had compared their ordeals to “a horror film”.

I have to travel to 'Murica every few months

I’m loving the fact that the exchange rate has gotten better for me by a significant margin, that hotels are offering cheaper rates because they have rooms empty that would otherwise be full and that places are less busy with tourists

I feel for the people who didn’t vote for Trump, but for those who did, and for those who could have voted against him but didn’t, they can suck the farts right out of my arsehole

By contrast, Airbnb has said the World Cup is to be “the biggest hosting event” in its history."

When you have an unregulated marketplace like AirBnB the legitimate businesses will loose. AirBnB rentals destroys neighborhoods and kills hotels

Hotels suck in comparison to renting a place. Renting may be causing other problems but it isn’t like they bring nothing to the table. If hotels didn’t want to lose out then maybe they should have stopped charging $300/night for a closet with a shitty bed in it.

Yeah, lets hear you out when the residental house next door has new people in every week treating it as a hotel. Think of the average hotel guest you have experienced? Yeah that one EVERY week.

Luckily my municipalityv/(Norway) will strike down hard on zoning violations of you run a commercial operation in a residential area.

The initial idea was brilliant. Occasionally eenting out a room in you house/flat. Or renting out a few weeks when you are yourself on vacation. But now that it’s businesses buying up housing and running them as hotels

        My take is different.

Trump was in bed with the New York Mafia for decades. The real bosses stayed as far away from him as possible, sending their stooges to control him.

Trump had one really smart mentor, Roy Cohn. He ditched Cohn when Roy was diagnosed with AIDS.

Trump thinks that he’s a genius because he does scams like selling NFTs and golden sneakers to chumps.

A real boss would have quietly extorted $50 billion out of Saudi Arabia on Inauguration Day 2017 and then just been quiet.

We’re taking about someone who bankrupted four (4!) casinos. Some of them multiple times.

He might be a successful grifter (though that’s probably more due to luck and being a useful and extremely easy to buy or convince puppet than any kind of talent), but a shrewd businessman he’s most definitely not.

It’s true, remember when bourbon businesses blamed Canada for their poor sales, couldn’t believe Canadians world do that to them?

And they were Republicans. Who voted for Trump. And they blamed Canada…

This was around the whole 51st state episode.

Love your myth in USA, where everything is booming! Everything is going so well, is so cheap to live and everything is amazing! Now that the world Cup starts, everything will be even more amazing!

How could this happen tho? It’s not as if the country became a shithole with a gestapo arresting and sending to concentration camps to anyone that is not a clear white straight usian…

Why would I want to risk being arrested or worse to see a soccer match? But also, why the hell would I want to give a single cent to a country that’s objectively making the lives of everyone in this world worse?

There are few things i would try to avoid more than visiting the US.
