Sometime ago I read about a movie, the director of which found a box of tapes in a garage sale or something, of a man travelling the world alone, and then made a movie out of those tapes.

I think there are some commentary of the man that I’m less sure about, being:

  • the man have just passed away and his family found out about these tapes, which he previously told no one about
  • the man have no children nor family of his own
  • the man had love prospect in his earlier years, and had given up on finding partner after that one didn’t work out

I’m not sure how recent that film is. I recall there being colored tape of a man on a mountain.

Have anyone have seen or heard of this movie? I’ve been searching for it for an afternoon and no luck, so it could be a bit niche I’d imagine

    Iceberg Shadow - Jäävuoren Varjoon

    https://vimeo.com/80966887 - Full Video

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1582516/

"The director finds a boxful of 8 mm films with pictures from all over the world at a garage sale.

Night after night the thin strips of plastic lying in the box come to life. They are clearly filmed by the same person, but who has wanted to capture all these moments? The calm after the storm, an oriental dancer, the mist in Machu Picchu – and a maggot eating a leaf, the screaming neon signs of Manhattan. The mysteriously quivering bustle of the extinct harbours. A million exposed frames. Somebody’s whole life and experiences for sale at a flea market.

The surprising discovery opens the door to a lost world and leads the viewer to a journey around the world - and even further - with a forgotten adventurer, an old sailor."

This looks amazing. I just watched the first 15 minutes, but I have to get to bed now and watch the rest tomorrow. Wanted to say thanks now, while I remember 👍

Following up on this - what a beautiful piece of work this is. Such a rich portrait of the man.

I’m so glad his films found their way to someone who could treat them with such love and respect. Thanks again.

Thank you very much! I think this is it. Some of the commentary and scenes looks familiar to me as well, especially the part where his letter did not come through the censor.

Okay but I lost my GoPro in Hawaii in 2019 and I would love if somebody would send that back to me. Whoever ended up with it eventually uploaded my videos a couple years later because it has that capability. But they clearly deleted some of them. Because not very many were uploaded. I feel violated and robbed.
