    I doubt it would be immediately crippling to the military, and I’m sure they’d be very interested in making whoever did it regret that decision. So, it would undoubtedly be a terrible idea for anyone that couldn’t take a severe counter-attack and likely open war.

    The US also does produce oil and gas, so I sincerely doubt it’d slow the military down too much if they were hellbent on returning the favor even in the long run. Even if it wreaked havoc on the economy, an irresponsible leader more interested in having a slapfight than a functional economy would surely instruct the military to do so.

    They put the oil reserves next to the major refineries. The reserves are a cave 1000 feet underground full of liquid that doesn’t do anything if you bomb it except maybe burn slowly, the refineries are a billion miles of rusty plumbing in a field that explodes and takes 10 years to fix if you hit it with a rock.
