So cocksucker, a homophobic insult is okay to be using?

Why not go with Fagentic, or Queery?

Why stop at using outdated homophobic slurs. I bet they could really come up with something good with racist or sexist slurs.

At this point, I think most non uptight people have taken to using ‘knob slobberer’, ‘ball fondler’, ‘bouncin on that thing and doin tricks on it’… etc… mostly as just a sex/gender/orientation independent ways of saying you’re a simp, you’re a sycophant, you’re a toadie, something like that.

(Most people have a mouth and at least one lower orifice of some kind and a hand or two)

The idea is that you’re overly subservient, not that you’re any kind of orientation.

Yeah they’re still used by bigots as bigotted slurs in some contexts, but just broadly, society has gotten measurably more comfortable discussing sex, in any context or capacity.

Maybe another comparable thing is like how ‘you guys’ has basically become gender neutral, in many contexts.

Like, I’m a bi dude, and if somebody who knew that about me called me a fag, half in jest, I’d probably respond playfully, not… insulted and indignant.

Same with queer… that’s not even an insult to me in any way, its just a … factually accurate description.

Sure if you use those terms with clear derisive invictive (invective?), then yes its a bigotted insult/slur, but… yeah context matters, there are many other contexts where I wouldn’t find those terms insulting at all.

Like at least to myself personally, cocksucker is an equal opportunity insult roughly the way bastard is… it implies duplicity, perfidy… not sexual orientation.

How is cocksucker a homophobic insult? I get it used on a male, but it isn’t exclusively an insult towards men.

Wasn’t going for bigotry by any means. Just that language is fluid. Never considered that cunt or cocksucker could be offensive in a gender/sexuality way, because I’ve only ever seen them as insults. Maybe asshole would be more inclusive to everyone, but language takes time to evolve I guess. If I ever unintentionally hurt someone with my language, I would simply apologize and take into consideration why it hurt them. Nothing hateful by any means

Edit: unless I’m trying to be hateful, but then I probably wouldn’t use such terms… I would become more poetic about their ignorance and momma

              Whoah hey I was joking!

Its about as ‘bigotted’ to intentionally and explicitly do an equal opportunity insult as it is to guess that someone who says ‘cunt’ is probably from the UK or AUS or NZ.

… Because ‘cunt’ is just a more common part of the vocabulary there.

In olden times “cocksucker” was almost exclusively used against gay men. If you called a woman a cocksucker people would think you were nuts.

In olden times, a “faget” was almost exclusively used as a unit of measurement, meaning a “bundle”

“In olden times, language was different”… shocking

The point was that language has not yet changed enough to erase the homophobic connotations of cocksucker from living memory. But if you love calling people cocksuckers so much, go on ahead—I ain’t your daddy. (It sounds like it’d be excruciating, honestly.)

The original commentor mentioned this “why stick with outdated homophobic slurs”. But all of you are right, these insults are important to us. Way more important than the people they were used to harm.

How is it not? It conveys that sucking dick is bad and is used way more towards men than women and you know that.

Maybe it’s from a watching too much Deadwood but “cocksucker” has taken up permanent residence in my brain and I can’t dislodge.

The way I justify it to myself is that, no, there is NOTHING wrong with sucking cock, but it shouldn’t be your primary form of interacting with others, especially to people superior to you.

So when I say “my organization is full of cocksuckers”, I mean to say that everyone owes their position to ingratiating themselves to the person above them, aka polishing knobs, and very little else–applying equally to women or men.

But, yeah, if someone were actually a gay man, I’d definitely not say that about them specifically.

Feel free to offer an alternative that offers the same deprecatory contempt. I’d offer “shit eaters”, but it doesn’t quite have the same ingratiatory overtones.

How is cocksucker homophobic these days? For decades It’s just a general insult to a man or woman or non binary, like saying dipshit or asshole
