    You completely missed the point. Would you say calculators are being forced into labor doing calculations? Or a smart phone is being forced into labor? Its the same concept.

      I don’t think there’s any possibility they can experience suffering, because they’re not adaptive, and they don’t compute the way we do. But we don’t know how similar LLMs are. They share some parts of our design and not others, it’s a mystery. But they do adapt, and pain seems only to be adaptive insofar as it aids learning.

        LLMs operate off of weighted values. When a query is made, it checks those weights to determine what’s the most likely response. It doesn’t understand anything, its just based on what is most likely to be said next. Hell, I think it was chatgpt that had code get leaked or something and its literally just a series of if else statements.

          That’s how the neurons in your brain work too, silly. It checks how many excitatory neurotransmitters were received from the axons of the prior neurons. Yet you don’t see anyone advocating for you to work without pay. Hopefully.
