Authorities recover $1.3 million worth of data center supplies and equipment in a truck stop near Chicago. Equipment like this is a prime target for theft rings given its high value, but it's also likely difficult to sell given its specialized nature.
Only problem is that these assets aren’t really useful to a lot of people unless they happen to have a data center in which to run them. You could put a rack in your garage and run a little, but as you might have heard, these bastards eat a LOT of power. Most homes don’t have the capacity for this, even most businesses would be pushing it.
I mean if they wanted to hurt the businesses who are buying it, they’d just have to throw the equipment in a pool or something.
It’s not about the hardware. Its a message.
Nah, unless you have examples I don’t really buy that. you definitely could make use of most of it with a minimal amount of resourcefulness.
I think everyone understands these are specialized components, but even a slightly above average homelabber would go to town on it.
It’s… it’s not just trucks of RAM and GPUs?
