The org is called Humans First, and they’re trying to have a 50501-style nationwide protest about it on July 18th. Ah, in that case we’re on the same page. I thought “clankers” was a term people were using to “put down” AI clients themselves, as if they had the ability to feel bad. Still, though, it means that the “humans first” idea breaks down, because it’s still just humans vs other humans.
I think you were right about clankers referring to the AI. It’s clear in the root comment that’s what they mean when they say “they literally aren’t people”. Also, it is common slang for robots in various media including, I think, Star Wars.
Isn’t it also slang for people who fuck robots?
I guess it might be used both ways? Which is silly, the chatbots aren’t going to get their feelings hurt by name calling.
Yeah, that’s why I always thought it was a strange term. I like the term “sloppers” to refer to the people using AI, though. Makes more sense to me.
