The U.S. has done many reprehensible things. But I’m talking about your specific claim that the odds of getting killed at a protest in the U.S. are 30%, which is false.

It’s a ridiculous claim. If it were 30%, even just off anecdotal data from social media, people you know at work, friends, you would hear about tons of people dying. I’ve been to numerous protests, I would have personally seen dozens to thousands of people dead.

I still see imperial used for building materials, tools, furniture, product dimensions, food packaging, recipes, travel distances. The doctor still tells me my weight in pounds. It’s what we use at my job when describing products to clients.

Hey I’m American and think we should switch to metric. While Celsius has a more objective basis than Fahrenheit, doesn’t seem like the same slam dunk as the other measurements.

I think you need a fourth word for better timing. A person might misinterpret the duration between glarp and dook, and arrive at peow too early or late. Just one more timing sample is better to reduce human error.

I’m curious, are you a developer? I’m just a hobbyist but reading his comment on the article it seemed reasonable. The problem is the capitalist handling of technology, not the technology. And tools like Claude are actually very helpful with coding, provided you have an understanding of the subject matter and aren’t just copy pasting what it’s giving you.

I’m a socialist so no big fan of capitalism. That said, I don’t think capitalism is just about selling things for more than they’re worth.

We add value through our labor. Think of a log, it has some value as raw material. A worker might cut it into planks, and another might make a table out of it. It’s now worth more than when it started. The value came from our labor, and we should be compensated for it.

The issue with capitalism is that the few benefit off the work of many. Based on the rest of your comment I think we’re pretty much in agreement, but just want to highlight that as a worker-owner (vs robber baron) there’s nothing wrong with charging for what you’re worth.

It’s also a really nice feeling to help someone jump a car, or help push a disabled car off the road. It’s this short(ish) and well defined opportunity to do good, without much gray area of “is this the best course of action” or “am I making an impact” you get with longer and more complex activism.

If the instance is in the same country, a government can much more effectively exercise leverage against some guy running a server than a publicly traded corporation with lawyers on retainer.

I wouldn’t mind if someone did the same with an LLM response. But just like I don’t want to read a copy and paste of chatgpt results I don’t want to read someone copy/pasting search results with no human analysis.
