  • The main things for me are the dedicated D-pad and dual thumbsticks. On the original, the left touchpad surface was just sort of textured to help it act as a D-pad. And the right touchpad is positioned in place of where you might want a right stick to be, and can be mapped to act as one in software. But in practice, there are some situations in which an actual D-pad or actual right stick are much better than faking it with touchpads. The new controller just has all the different input methods so that it should hypothetically work great in any game.







  • Moving at 10+ in TOS was always due to some alien influence or something. The Enterprise engines were definitely not capable of those speeds under normal conditions.

    With that said, in TOS, warp 10+ is just “you are moving really fast”. But in VOY, warp 10 is “you are literally occupying every point in space simultaneously” and there is nothing past warp 10. It is a complete reimagining of the ceiling to warp speed. In TOS, it seemed there was no theoretical maximum warp speed, just like how there is no theoretical maximum to kilometers per hour. But by VOY, warp was capped at 10, and once you reached that speed, you became a salamander because reasons.

    The best fan explanation for the retcon that I have seen to justify why the scale appears to differ in-universe is that they are genuinely different units. That at some time between TOS/VOY, scientists made some new breakthrough in their understanding of warp mechanics and discovered that there actually was a ceiling to warp speed. As such, they decided to change the standard warp units, making “warp 10” this new ceiling and everything else is just a fraction of that. According to this logic, when Scotty says “Wow, we are traveling at warp 30!” he is speaking in TOS-era warp units, which might translate to just something like “warp 8” in VOY-era units.







  • Tried creating a playlist with only limited number of episodes but it just keeps playing other episodes of same show.

    That behaviour does not sound right. You are saying that if you create a playlist that is literally just Star Trek S1E1 (one single episode), it will play that episode, and then automatically go on to play S1E2, then S1E3, etc. even though those episodes are not in the playlist? I cannot find a way to make that happen. In my experience in that situation, it plays S1E1, then the video player exits. It does not start playing S1E2.

    That sounds like there must be some setting like “continuous mode” or “autoplay” that is enabled. In other media apps, that sort of setting is sometimes used to continue playback of similar media when the current playlist ends. But as I said, I cannot find a setting like that anywhere in Jellyfin.

    Euro-Office liberates the ONLYOFFICE code base

    Euro-Office is based on the ONLYOFFICE Open Source, an AGPL codebase. This code base is being extensively reviewed and cleaned up, with the goal of making it easy to build and contribute to. Why did we resort to a fork, rather than collaborate? Of course, forking should be a last resort. Unfortunately, open collaboration with ONLYOFFICE was not possible, for a number of reasons:

    • Contributing is impossible or greatly discouraged. ONLYOFFICE typically does not review or accept pull requests. Build instructions are unreliable, outdated or just plain broken.
    • The company regularly makes controversial decisions like closing off features in the mobile apps like mobile editing, and the removal of an administrator panel.
    • Lacking transparency. Commit messages, when visible, often just refer to an issue number in an internal issue tracker. There are quite a number of binary blobs and compiled or obfuscated code blobs. Most internal code comments are Russian which makes is hard to work with.
    • The mobile apps are not really open source but just wrappers. Example. The apps have extensive proprietary sections which will need to be re-implemented. Work on this is underway.
    • ONLYOFFICE is a Russian company (despite many attempts to hide this), and nearly all developers reside in Russia. Open Source is a global effort, but current political situation makes collaboration hard and trust difficult to earn. Especially when development is not transparent and open. A lot of users and customers require software that is not potentially influenced or controlled by the Russian government.
