  • I’d say helpfulness, responsiveness and being friends are three different things, that can be overlapping or not.

I know some people who always respond and keep the conversation alive even though we’re not friends, and i can be ghosted for days by close friends, who i lived intense things with.

I know some people who helped me moving out even though we were just accointances, and i have friends who are lazy enough to avoid this, but i live spending time with them anyway.

These are very fluid for me, so i’d say to avoid worrying, it’s best to not expect a lot from people, and/or to try to find friends that seem to match your needs

  • I think there is a misunderstanding here, the problem people have with your comment is not the meaning of it, but the words you chose.

Calling someone an abused wife is effectively pointing things out (as in direct description), but calling someone a pet is not pointing things out, it is making a metaphor (as in indirect description) that points at the similarity between a woman and a pet, which is what carries the sexist aspect. No big problem with that, you can simply withdraw the “pet” part and find a term that actually points things out.

  • Was curious about those numbers and ended up reading this article, which was quite interesting : https://ourworldindata.org/mortality-risk-covid

In short, i think the difference in death rate between covid and hantaviruses’ respiratory infections is probably smaller than 40 to 1 (though still presumably high). This is because (i suppose) both number are a ratio of confirmed death to confirmed cases. As the article points out, the number of confirmed cases can fluctuate depending on how much you test people : for covid, this kind of mortality rate (CFR) was higher at first because few people were tested. Once a lot of tests were made, it diminished. I guess (and from now on it is 100% my uneducated take) that the respiratory infections due to the Andes variant are not well tested, and the high mortality rate is partly due to the fact that it’s more likely to test people dying or nearing death because of it, than people who had less or no problems but got silently infected.

Still, had no idea death rates were that high, thanks for sharing this ! I’ll be more careful about this issue now.

Wow, that’s wonderfully crafted to have a mix of pertinent points and bended facts to get a tight leninist propaganda. You’re completely occulting the fact that anarchists integrated the red army only because they were outnumbered, fought the red army itself when able to, that even anarchists truly loyal to bolshevik power were arrested and disbanded, and nicely playing along the underlying assumption that it’s weird anarchists joined soviets : it’s not, they were pro-soviets, they fought for soviets free of bolshevik control. Yes to left unity, no to rewriting history.

Because it reeks of sexism. The premise is that the person could be a poser (not knowing Megadeth songs), and this is applied mostly to women, especially when it’s based on just wearing a t-shirt : a dude with a metal shirt leads to “cool, a fellow metalhead”, a women with a metal shirt leads to “uh, is she a poser ?”.

The conclusion of being extra-fair about confusing two major bands, just after being overly picky, also implies that you have a good reason to change your mindset, and this stinks of sexist implications too.

Metalhead girls get this question way too often. If it one day crosses your mind to ask it, please at least rephrase it so it’s not accusatory. Just ask about their musical tastes or if they saw them live, like you would do with any one but not this fucking “name one song”.
