  • Deception isn’t the only reason to filter information, it’s just wasteful and redundant to constantly be transmitting the entirety of all of the input processes of an individual. If individuals are similar within a species to a certain point, they don’t all need to constantly be reporting to eachother all of the similarities. We also don’t only make use of our own consciousness or filter for language purposes, there’s a million different processes that exist subconsciously not because we’ve blocked them out but just because there’s no reason for our self to be aware of them.

  • As long as you’re using and plugging in your steamdeck reasonably often(every couple of days) the suspend mode is fantastic and there’s little reason to ever do a full shutdown or reboot in my experience. Boot into desktop mode the first time, and then just use the suspend mode to stay there, switching to gaming mode only when you want to play games. It also doesn’t take very long to switch from gaming mode to desktop mode or vice versa, I find the main time killer is the initial boot up into gaming mode the first time after shutdown.
Or you can just load games out of desktop mode, a recent update fixed a lot of the issues I had with the steam overlay not working in desktop mode and denying access to the powerful steaminput configuration options. That all works flawlessly now in desktop mode as well. I haven’t actually switched back to gaming mode for some time, since I use desktop mode to install games anyway and test the installation, it’s easier just to stay in desktop mode now.

  • This is good advice. I would also suggest that if you’re currently paying rent and don’t have a car, but are reasonably certain you won’t be able to pay rent in the future, it’s maybe better to stop paying rent now (or as soon as you can to avoid an eviction) and use that money towards a car instead so you also have somewhere reliable and safe to sleep. A car and a gym membership might not be an ideal living situation but that will allow you to stay clean and presentable and potentially work to save up enough for rent in the future.

  • I’m not sure where you got this information, but I’d be interested to see a source. As far as I know in the middle ages beers and ales were brewed using the same mash multiple times leading to varying strengths ranging from 10-12% for the first batch to very little alcohol ~1% from the third batch. And of course there were also various types of wines available. Children drank only the weak beer, but there was definitely high alcohol content drinks available.

  • Having an NPC go in front is way worse lmao. I hate little semi cutscenes where it zooms in on some NPC jumping across platforms or climbing up ledges, that’s way worse game design than having a subtle visual cue for ledges you can grab onto. I mean it doesn’t need to be as blatant as yellow paint, but just recognizable distinguishable feature if you’re gonna have a jump and hang mechanic on some ledges but not others
