I hope it backfires and increases gen z and alpha support for building out public transit. Viable Metro systems in every US city, commuter rail across all 50 states and national high-speed rail system. If we have those things, who cares how much gas costs

I remember in high school social studies, civil rights essentially “concluded” with the death of civil rights leaders. I had a great teacher who tried to include queer rights until the lesson and I am so grateful to her for helping us understand that civil rights includes the the disabled community

Doesn’t that require a subscription though? It may not eliminate the slot videos, but that subscription is going to be a pretty substantial barrier to entry

And the price will always go up until there is an alternative to curb demand. There won’t be an alternative until people in this country start to demand regional rail in their states, stop acting like public transit is something that can only exist in a major city, and actually invest in the public transit in their cities. “BuT I LiKe DrIviNg!” then drive to your girl’s house or the grocery store. But you should have the OPTION to use the bus or light rail or whatever to get to work/school.

edit: I also want to add that this is a disability/accessibility issue as well. We should consider it unreasonable that the elderly/disabled are required to drive or have modified vehicles just to get around their community. If you support taking away a senior’s driver’s license then you should also support walkable neighborhoods and public transit.

Sure, but there are still plenty of people who buy MacBook Pros regardless of their actual use cases, simply because they think the laptops will last longer. Anecdotally, I’ve tried to stop at least three friends from making that purchase.

The amount of people who spend thousands of dollars on MacBooks to just open up Safari makes me want to believe the average person could just have a ThinkPad with Mint or regular Ubuntu and be just fine. But the reality is if you run into a solvable issue on Windows or a MacBook, usually the degrees of separation from someone (friend or family member) who can solve that issue is much, much, much lower. I just seriously doubt most people can conduct the bare minimum of troubleshooting to be able to even search the internet for easy solutions. Can people learn? Absolutely! Are they going to go through the trouble? Probably not.

But who knows, as personal computing becomes more expensive and system requirements stop people from updating. Maybe more people look to Linux as an alternative and perhaps we’ll reach a critical mass where my previous statement doesn’t matter.
