What a coincidence, that is about how long it’s been since Penny Arcade was relevant.

I mean, it never really officially changed, the term just started broadly bring used as “first world” == good and modern and “third world” == shitty and backwards by people that didn’t know what it actually meant.
The Slate looks like it won’t be, hence my interest.

It is by the very definition of the term. It is just that “first world” doesn’t mean what people think it does and isn’t necessarily even good.
My favorite port of Doom was the wacky PSDoom where it spawned enemies that were your processes and you could renice or kill the processes by hurting or killing them.
I played Doom on my 30GB Ipod with Rockbox on it. It was stupid hard to control with the wheel, but it did in fact run.
Sorry, all I’ve got is a Neo Geo (https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/06/why-a-neo-geo-port-of-doom-is-functionally-impossible/)

Ah, but the real trick is that some of the sprite’s better spells don’t have a downtime (one example is the main dark offensive spell). You can just rapid fire the spell as quick as the menu lets you. Randi feels silly in comparison.

Why do the Nazis always flee to Argentina?

You are quite correct in your current impression of the state differences. My backyard in my previous Florida home bordered on a protected watershed area. I referred to it as Dagobah, and you essentially couldn’t go in the backyard for a good part of the year without getting swarmed.

That’s basically how most two player games of SoM end up. “Randi” is just a boring attacker and not particularly fun to play. It is also the only one the AI can really handle playing properly.

I came for the bees gif in the comments and I quite satisfied.
Oh that trick I fully employed. They had to retire 19 internal applications within a year of me leaving :D
I’ve been in these sorts of situations (had enormous access to critical systems and data and was poorly treated by employer), but logically I just don’t think it is worth the risk to myself, my family, and my future in general to get revenge on these sort of things. It would need to be some sort of Princess Bride situation (“You killed my father, now prepare to die”) kind of thing to bring me to that sort of insanity.
I have also had coworkers that did similar-ish things and they were quite lucky that all that happened was that they were immediately fired and blackballed.

Diner seat cushions, but now they will forever be hotdogs.

Realistically, I prefer USB 9B) over toslink for my DAC, but I am more confused how HDMI and DP are being shown as outdated.

What? I have been using it as my preferred video port for over a decade. How could it possibly make you rage quit?

FWIW, All of my cameras are onsite and store video on the network. Most of the affordable options got replaced with cloud products because of enshitty reasons, but it can be done reasonably by companies as long as they have someone IT adjacent or have IT services than can do the initial setup (which they’d probably hire out anyway) and do minimal monitoring of the video server and handle backups.

The “public WiFi” used by a lot of cities is just standard commercial/enterprise APs, so it may not be the same thing anyway. Arguably, that makes a lot more sense to use in most cities than the more exotic wide area deployments. It is still cool that it exists.
Of course we are, beef has become unaffordable to the masses.
