Online content producer MrBeast’s company wrongfully terminated a female staffer shortly after she returned from maternity leave, the woman said in a lawsuit alleging a sexist culture that pressured her to join a conference call from the labor and delivery room.
The staffer, Lorrayne Mavromatis, said company leadership subjected her to sexual harassment, demoted her after she complained internally about the harassment, and expected her to continue working during her parental leave in violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
The company, MrBeastYouTube LLC, had no policy for maternity leave and failed to inform her of her rights under the FMLA after she notified a manager of her pregnancy and said she would need to take leave, according to the complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
I’ve never watched a Mr beast video in my life. But just the thumbnails and the topic of his video’s is enough to determine he’s a shit human being. Why would you even ever start working for him?
I’ve never watched a Mr beast video in my life.
It’s functionally Nickelodeon’s “Double Dare” shot with the production value of Blair Witch Project. If you haven’t seen an explicit Mr. Beast video, I’m sure you’ve seen something that inspired Jimmy Donaldson or was inspired by him in turn.
The ahem “innovation” isn’t in the content nearly so much as the hype. He started out constantly A/B testing the algorithm to maximize the number of times his video would show up in feeds. Now that he’s big enough, and YouTube has optimized its “pay to be played” scheme, I suspect he’s just paying out the nose like anyone else who wants their content front-paged.
Why would you even ever start working for him?
Hollywood is in absolute free fall right now. Garbage like this is what pays the bills.
You should watch the latest folding ideas video. He’s actually starting to trend down as people age out (and I think move to other platforms)
You should watch the latest folding ideas video.
If I’ve got an hour and change to spare. I’ve seen a few “behind the Beast” take downs and know some of the story, at least. Yadda Yadda, he’s a consequence of structural forces, not some Great Man of Internet History. And now that the streaming networks have more-or-less cornered the digital marketplace, Beating The Algorithm means less, because The Algorithm is just how much you can throw at ad-buys.
He’s actually starting to trend down as people age out
Adding another pair of trunkless legs to the desert.
But he collected his nut and cemented his reputation. I’m sure he’ll continue to haunt the back alleys of the indie content scene for another generation to come.
No fucking clue who this shit head is. Sometimes its great to be old!
LA Beast is far far superior, and more intelligent 🙃
Are you really blaming the woman here?
Millions of people work for evil employers. Would you ask the same of an Amazon employee?
I think that’s a very uncharitable take on the post.
Whereas that lexical interpretation exists, I think OP’s point is “why would anyone work for MrBeast” as opposed to “why did this particular person work for him”.
Yeah it’s the employee’s fault when their employer mistreats them.
Again missing the point.
Doing it on purpose now?
There’s a difference when you are talking about working for a large faceless corporation, and when you’re talking about working for an individual. It’s like the difference between working for the US government, vs being Donald Trump’s assistant.
Mr Beast employs about 500 people.
I really don’t think the fault lies with the employee here.
Yes, I ask the same of Amazon employees. But, only rhetorically, to make people think. Realistically, we’re forced into working for evil people, and therefore, we’re all forced to compromise on our morals just to feed ourselves. We’ve allowed the billionaire capitalists to take over the world–people who are completely devoid of empathy and morals. We get what we tolerate.
What the actual fuck is happening in here.
This woman was told to work while she was laboring and birthing a child.
And it’s her fault?
What the actual fuck is happening in here.
I think what happened is you read a rhetorical phrase from one poster and interpreted as a literally condemnation of this specific woman. Someone else mostly pointed this out to you, and you doubled down again on your exaggerated misinterpretation.
The overwhelming opinion in here is that the woman in the article should not have been surprised at this treatment and it’s her fault for working for Mr. Beast.
She has rights as an employee and she has every right to take him to court over her treatment while employed with him.
Y’all just can’t resist blaming a victim.
The overwhelming opinion in here is that the woman in the article should not have been surprised
True.
at this treatment and it’s her fault for working for Mr. Beast.
False.
The assignment of fault has been only you saying that. No one else is. You are interpreting what others are saying as they are assigning fault. That is an error in your interpretation.
She was rights as an employee and she has every right to take him to court of her treatment while employed with him.
She does have rights, and she absolutely can take the company to court. If the claims are are indeed substantiated its should be a pretty easy slam dunk in her favor too.
Y’all just can’t resist blaming a victim.
Again, fault and blame are your words here. No one else is saying that.
Why would you even ever start working for him?
We get what we tolerate.
You work for someone named Mr Beast. How is anyone surprised that a young YouTuber is a jerk?
Gets job with asshole, wonders why asshole is asshole.
Would you ask the same of an Amazon employee?
Yes?
So it’s ok for Amazon and other companies to mistreat their employees because it’s the employees fault for needing a job?
Huh? Where did I say anything like that?
Why would you even ever start working for him?
I still wouldn’t blame an Amazon employee for Amazon violating their employment rights regardless of how I feel about Amazon as an employer.
We all need to pay bills and eat. That doesn’t mean this woman is at fault for how her employer treated her while she was giving birth.
I would still criticize them for working at Amazon.
You gonna put food on their table?
Why is your first instinct to criticize the employee and not the employer?
Mr. Beast has the eyes of a psychopath so I’m not surprised.
Most CEOs are similar.
💯 %
He has what I can only describe as a wet dog smile.
Well there’s an image I can’t get outta my head … even though it’s very accurate and I’ll likely steal that phrase 😀
YouTuber Dan Olson (Folding Ideas) has recently released a vlog / documentary / think piece about visiting Beast Studios (78 minutes) that dismantles Mr. Beast’s whole oeuvre so thoroughly, so mercilessly, that I was honestly feeling a little sorry for him. Perhaps I shouldn’t.
Just finished watching this too.
I still don’t feel bad for him, but the vid does a great job of illustrating everything I hate about him and his brand.
MrBeastYouTube LLC
The company has YouTube in the name? That seems very weird.
He’s got a number of derivative businesses in his name. MrBeastYouTube LLC is the business that manages the YouTube content explicitly.
He’s the Ray Kroc of streaming.
I was thinking more like the Haim Saban.
Mr teeth
“No relation! I don’t vibe with that freaky-deaky cat, ya dig?”

Shocking
You work for someone named Mr Beast. How is anyone surprised that a young YouTuber is a jerk?
Article doesn’t say this woman was surprised.
She still has the right to be treated fairly and I hope she wins in court.
