And i don’t mean stuff like deepfakes/sora/palantir/anything like that, im talking about why the anti-genai crowd isn’t providing an alternative where you can get instant feedback when you’re journaling

there’s the people who hate it bc they have petit-bourgueois leanings and think at the stuff as “stealing content” and “copyrighted material” like artist people, “code monkeys” or writers

and there’s the people that hate it because it’s an obvious grift made to siphon resources and “try” to be a big replacement for proles, and a huge wasteful technology that dries water sources and rises electricity bills with their data centers

yeah, it’s kinda useful to make a drawing, fill blank space in a document, or being a dumb assistant who hallucinates anything to pretend that it knows stuff

Those aren’t petit bourgeois tendencies, those are pre-capitalist artisanal tendencies.

Except for the copyright aspect, but independent artists rarely clamour about their “copyrights”, as their issue is more about how their work, whether copyrighted or not, is getting fed into a capitalist black hole machine designed to replace workers to benefit no one but a few capitalists.

Most within the art world could care less if someone took the time to learn their style one to one by studying their work. That’s the entire point of art to a degree, as the end product is still an expression of labour value. Something that can’t be said about GenAI

Humans like to think they’re special somehow. So they need a way to define a human that excludes everything else.

    And that’s sentience!

Diogenes with a chicken “Behold, a human”

Whoops. Don’t want them pesky animals in there. Let’s try something else.

    It’s intelligence!

Diogenes with a LLM “Behold, a human”

    Whoops. Well then…

    It’s creativity!

    Well, what’s that?

It’s the ability to imagine whatever you want and then make that.

… Okay that sounds cool. Look what advances in AI enabled me to make.

Wait now billions of people can express their creativity and become competition. Let’s dehumanize them: “you didn’t make that, the machine made it, and the definition of creativity is now drawing skill.”

Diogenes with a diffusion model “Behold, a human”

People unironically say shit like LLMs are intelligent and it bums me out so much. It makes me wonder what they think other people are and what they believe they’re doing when they have a conversation with someone.

Unironically I would rather people be conventionally religious in a toxic way than say things like this. At least even the most reactionary catholics don’t (or shouldn’t) think humans are just sophisticated computer programs. How are tech nerds able to do worse than the fucking catholic church?

AI Marxists are unironically becoming a Cult Mechanicus and all it took was the plagiarism machine telling them that they’re very special, very smart, good boys.

Mindlessly regurgitating Wikipedia and Reddit comments is not “intelligence”.

There’s no thinking going on there. LLMs can’t think, reason, or utilize logic. They are fundamentally incapable of doing so.

Also saying that Diffusion models create art with good drawing skills is hilarious.
