There is only one dog that should have been put down and it wasn’t the puppy. it was the sick freak who attacks, growls (yells), and bites (shoots) small dogs and kids while having a hard dick. (no seriously it looks like the cops had hard-ons)

“Antifa dog killed in daring police raid”

I feel bad for the owner. Hard to imagine. At least it was probably quick for the poor pup.

The video of the woman crying over his body while the cops just stand there is heartbreaking and infuriating. The poor baby was just lying there motionless in his knicks shirt.

      while the cops

For anybody who hasn’t seen the video, we’re talking at least a dozen uniformed cops all standing in a cluster looking dumbfounded, not knowing what to do with themselves as a woman lays sobbing over her puppy’s lifeless body.

A dozen useless cops arrived at the scene for a noise complaint because they apparently had nothing better to do than to stare blankly at their victim as she grieved over what was taken from her by senseless, state-sanctioned violence.

And they have the audacity to continue to demand more of your tax dollars.

Once outside of the apartment, the dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).

That dog ran up to get pets from his new cop friends and they shot him.

I have a dog like this. He has never met a person who isn’t his best friend. He’s a big dog (Dalmatian) but he’s the friendliest boy.

Big dogs get treated differently than small dogs. If a small dog jumps on you, it’s fine.If a big dog jumps to get attention, a cop will shoot it.

If a cop shoots my dog, they better shoot me too.

I get it, but I also think they’ll happily shoot you. They dream about nothing else all day every day, and our copaganda media enforces it. They live in fear of what they have seen in cop dramas, and they trained in Israel to shoot first and maybe ask questions later.

A couple posts down from this one cops opened fire in a crowded walmart parking lot because they perceived someone was “trying to run away” and killed a 1 year old black toddler, and critically wounded his aunt. Not that its a headline competition or that I dont love dogs.

      https://lemmy.world/post/48265043

They pulled up to investigate a possible shoplifting incident and started blasting. And they never talked to the family at all after they killed the kid and shot the aunt. No investigation of “shoplifting”, nothing.

Thats apple pie with a side of vanilla ice cream.

If you’re scared of dogs you simply shouldn’t be allowed to be a police officer. Dogs can be dangerous, but a dog running at someone is a very normal thing dogs do and you need to be able to fucking handle that before you enter someone’s property with a gun.

Or dog owners could simply keep their animals under control. Other people don’t particularly want to be approached by canines of unknown provenance.

Cops are literally granted the monopoly of violence, they aren’t your regular Joe at the park who rightfully complains about dogowners.

If you’re entering someone’s property without their express consent, you’re not being “approached” by a dog. If it’s literally your job to do that, you need to be able to react reasonably to dogs who will act like dogs.

Just don’t become a cop, then you can complain about dogs approaching you all you want.

I read the article with Firefox Reader Mode. Here’s how the cops describe the incident:

In a statement, the LAPD said its officers were directed to an apartment by a person who called them to report screaming, and when the woman opened the door they were confronted by a large, barking dog.

“The officers asked her to secure the dog, and the resident closed her door momentarily,” the statement said.

“She reopened the door, and the dog exited the apartment. Once outside of the apartment, the dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).”

It might be bullshit ofc, but I think this qualifies as “being approached” by a dog. It’s a dog owner’s responsibility to secure their dog, especially after being asked to.

Shooting at dogs is incredibly stupid. I’ve seen video where cop shoots at a dog, the bullet hits concrete floor and pieces of concrete hits a child in the face. I’ve also seen a video where a cop shoots a child behind the dog. The dog will not kill the cop but he is creating life threatening situation to everyone around. Shooting at a dog is not an appropriate defense, It should be a fireable offense.

Us police are trained in something called “killilogy”. They are taught to always assume their lives are in danger, and that their number 1 duty is to protect themselves

If you happen to kill a child, you still did the right thing

              I’m not kidding, that’s what they’re taught

yeah gun owners and cops dont seem to remember that every bullet fired goes somewhere after it misses, and urban landscapes are full of innocent people. Guns dont belong in cities and cops arent trained well enough to be allowed to use them. Give those idiots a nightstick.

I guess? I agree that any shooting should happen responsibly (train people before you give them guns ffs), but what do you mean “the dog will not kill the cop”? People do die from dog attacks, and even if it isn’t that common I don’t see how anyone can be expected to just accept being mauled. How are you supposed to defend yourself?

Where exactly am I supposed to see that? (I already mentioned having to use Reader Mode for OP’s article; here’s one that probably has the same pictures.) The size of the dog is not clear from the Knicks shirt picture, though I notice he apparently takes up a full couch cushion. In the still from the aftermath video, the blurred out dog is almost as long as the grieving woman - it certainly doesn’t give the impression of a small dog, though without properly seeing the posture and more visual references it’s hard to actually tell. This source says the dog was a “golden retriever/St. Bernard/poodle mix” - that doesn’t sound small to me.

I mean that the dog will not just jump and rip off your head. Dogs need time to kill someone. This cop had backup. There no way the dog would be able to maul on him for so long that he would die. If you can’t get the dog off him then yes, as last resort shot it. Shooting the dog on sight is stupid. Mailmen interact with dogs all the time and don’t have to carry guns to survive.

Dogs very much can kill people. What are you talking about?

This dog couldn’t have though, and shooting it definitely seems cruel and excessive.

I’m talking about realistic situations. Yes, dogs kill people if they are attacked by a specific breeds or many dogs and there’s no one to assist them. Can a dog realistically kill a cop who’s surrounded by people, including other armed cops? No. Dog will not kill you with one, quick bite, no matter how big it is. You don’t have to shoot it before it can bite you. Firing a gun to save you from a bite makes no sense.

In my small city (midwest US), it used to be very common for the cops to shoot people’s dogs. It must have been a fun sport for them–they’d just say the dog charged at them and that was it. It would happen at least once every couple months or so.

Until one day about 15 years ago, when a cop responded to a house alarm in the middle of the day. Apparently the lady didn’t realize it was armed or didn’t get it turned off in time. She had a small poodle which ran out into the yard barking and the cop immediately shot it dead, as per usual. Except oops, there was one problem. It was a judge’s house. It was a judge’s wife who witnessed the callous killing of her harmless pet poodle, not just your average citizen this time.

And thus ended the dog-killing streak in my city.

Not even close. As the other poster said $500 or less is pretty common. Burials with caskets can run into the thousands just like with humans, but most people don’t do that.

no. depending on what you want it’s never more than like $500. When my Golden Retriever died we had a private cremation with an upgraded urn, cost $390.
