So anyway, the owners of the company I work for had a global call last week on Wednesday at 5am local time. I was ready with a 15minute alarm so I could have time to spare. Just find the item on my teams schedule and click the link thought.
So Wednesday comes, I wake up, run to the laptop, plug in my security dongle hit the on button… The thing takes a fucking 4 minutes to start for whatever the fuck reason. Hmm ok, I have a few more minutes, no problem! Click the… Fuck! It’s just a photo!!! Ok find the original invite! Found it! Click the link! Surely this takes me directly to the meeting, right? Right? No! Its a fucking download! Oh ok where did that shit go? To the downloads folder! Ok click! Ok now getting into the meeting! Finally! Shit! No volume! Where’s the un-mute! The fucking unmute! What’s she saying? Fuck! There! Done!..
“So that’s how you can enter information into our database… If you have any questions feel free to contact me directly blah blah thanks for joining, good bye!”
So I scrambled to the link to find a make-up session. Found it, signed up. Now for 38 minutes ago local time fucking midnight. Same fucking ordeal to get to the stupid fucking teams meeting for a fucking recording!!!
Holy fucking donkey shit! They made me do all that for a recording that could have just been sent as a link for me to see at my leasure at any moment during a normal business hour!!!
I need two uncomfortable foldable chairs, duct tape and a bat. Not a corked bat. I need a 2X4 with a handle or a lead pipe. One chair is for the asshole who figured out a way to make computers so fucking useless at Microsoft. The other is for the total wackjob who thinks you need a midnight or 5 am meeting to watch a 10 minute video recording. You both should be very ashamed of being people. Heck, no, be ashamed of being animals at all. Things that are not inanimate. Holy jeezets you both are so stupid!
Ok, now I’m going to sleep. Goodbye! Have a wonderful day y’all!
How does any of this relate to Microsoft?
There’s a whole party of the story about the computer taking forever to boot and teams being overly complicated to use. 🤷🏽♂️
The most likely cause of the slow boot is the usb dongle.
Yes exactly. If they would just get out of the way things would work smoothly.
The other part of the problem is the whole corporate hoop jumping thing where they choose whatever is safest… All people must watch or read X thing such that we can automatically checkbox that they did it… I’m case we get sued… If they get hurt by doing the job we don’t have to pay because we told them it was possible. But how can this be accomplished across the globe? Via an automated video ofcourse! But send it at midnight!
the total wackjob who thinks you need a midnight or 5 am meeting to watch a 10 minute video recording
I’m usually all for rehabilitation, but this behaviour deserves Gitmo-level torture.
Microsoft teams and shitty management shafted me out of a job that could have been pretty sweet.
Remote interview. Click the link to join the room. Just me alone. Back out and back in. Me alone. Wait 5 minutes to see if its some kind of patience test because they said the interview would take 45 minutes but I cant think a single reason why it would take more than 5. Reply to the email telling them Im here alone. Send an email to the company checking if ive been sent the right time or link. Wait in silence for a full hour. Receive an automated email rebuking me for not attending the interview and that I’ve been blacklisted for applying for the company for 12 months.
Just. Fuck. Off.
Same exact thing happened to me and they just ghosted me afterwards. It was for a good job too.
It sounds like you dogged a bullet. Management didn’t try to reach out to you at all in that hour to ask where you were? They didn’t see the email and figure out it was technical hiccup and reschedule the interview?
Same thing happened to me for a remote call center job. They ended up discovering they mistyped the invitation link by not copy pasting the last character. They told me I was unprofessional via email until then. When they rescheduled, I simply told them their unprofessional approach pushed me to search another opportunity.
That made me angry
Lol. :) If that is true, then you have a ridiculous culture over there. In Sweden, someone from hr would call me if I didn’t show up, since they understand that technical problems are common.
I frequently conduct interviews and will call the phone number on record or from the CV if the candidate is even just a few minutes late.
I’m sorry but if you think this is on microsoft and not that company…
Were you being paid for this ungodly hour activity?
lol.
yes…but no… but yes.
salaried employees don’t get paid depending on how long or when they work.
almost guarantee op is salaried.
Pretty US centric world view. Depending on where OP lives it might be vastly different.
…what? Salaried vs hourly is in no way specific to the US.
Of course it is. I’m salaried and I’m very much forbidden to work at night without a specific additional contract. So my salaried ass just can say “no” to any requests to look at stuff at 2 am in the morning without any repercussions. If they want me to do that, that has to be negotiated and has to be paid separately.
I’m salaried and I’m very much forbidden to work at night without a specific additional contract.
This is true of less than 20 countries out of the 195 in the world. Again, this is in no way specific to the US.
Not debating that this is not the case in other parts of the world (10 of 195 sounds also a bit arbitrary though. Would love to see some kind of data about that, but I guess it’s kind of a very specific question). Could have skipped the first sentence of my original post maybe.
that sounds very specific to your country. the majority of salaried positions in the world have little to no regulation.
your position is enviable, and I feel like you just wanted to humble brag about it.
Not really specific. Quite some counties have regulations and protections for their workers. I want to point out that the “default” option shouldn’t be displayed as the norm, even if it is common, because it is the worst possible option. It normalises a situation which shouldn’t be normal (and can be fought).
There is no way to point out the differences without making an example. In this case I was able to use my own situation as an example, in other cases where I’m not in a so lucky situation, I would have used a more general one.
You wanna see a recording of my answer to this? I’ll include a link to the rickroll video but wait until 2 am to watch it. 2am is very important regardless of how you are paid or where you are geographically.
Of course! If I’m paid the rate I’m usually paid when I have to get up at 2 am in the morning, I gladly get rick rolled! :D
2 million if you put a nail thru your finger and then plug it in to a 12V AC source when you connect the negative to your tongue priercing… Would you do it?
Mhhhh, doesn’t seem worth it. But the real important question, do I also have to do this at 2 am in the morning?
The fact that ‘meeting that should have been an email’ and ‘5am’ would make me way more pissed at the job than the shitty software. Unless I’m on the clock or getting paid overtime, that meeting can suck my balls. 110%, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Not if the building is on fire, not that the CEO perished in a freak accident, nothing. That is absolute horseshit and they can brief me when I am on the clock next. Or, you know, they can email me. Like they should have initially.
Even to call Microsofts attempts at software mediocre would be a compliment.
They make profoundly shit software at every level.
Microsoft’s entire business plan seems to be to produce the shittiest possible interpretation of every single piece of software they can think of, and then have it become the default that everyone uses for some fucking reason.
Microsoft: if you can’t make it good, make it mandatory.
Lucky it let you log in at all.
On my phone I often have to delete the app data so it will load anonymous rather then just hang at getting ready.
Then there’s the whole work vs personal account stuff, and sending you a six digit 2FA but asking for seven digits.
Now I run a Jitsi server on a VPS so I know it’ll just work for our needs.
If you ever get that personal or work or school prompt again. Login to the personal account, go into account settings and remove the work email. It will fix like 40% of login issues.
In my case, I think they are the same email, which adds entertainment. Will keep that in mind.
That’s fine, you can always add a new @outlook.com address if you need to remove it.
I’ve had more productive conversations with the crap that forms at the bottom of my fridge.
One should be paid to use microsoft support.
