My left/right nod depends on the physical layout of the land. I either nod towards a girl or a place to talk.
The nod up also includes eyebrow raising.
a really funny trait i had pre-transition was doing man nods (presenting female)
i don’t think i really processed it as a male thing till i had transitioned

Personally I’m not sure about the left / right thing, but otherwise there really is something beautiful about context dependent nodding.The one video about guys nodding to each other to get an order of beers is such a textbook example…
Nodding up is the same motion you’d make to say “hey” to a friend
Nodding down is a small bow of respect that exists in like every culture ever
The left/right thing makes no sense and is in no way universal. What if the girl is to your right?
The left right thing is weird, yes.
Both are basically the same: pointing
“Hey, look at this” and “hey, let’s get over there and talk”
Yes, up is informal and down is formal
