Well, I think the general public probably is a bit confused about that. But, I think the disagreement is on the exposure of workers, and the practices around that.

IIRC, nuclear reactors for power have surprisingly high operating costs, even tho the fuel costs are quite low, and most of those costs are radiation controls. (And, no one is saying we need to eliminate controls, just dial them back a bit based on better science of how radiation affects humans.)

There’s a current disagreement about radiation dosing policy right now, too. One side things the current approach is fine, the other believes that we are so overly conservative that we are wasting a lot of resources avoiding doses that are inconsequential. This is most relevant if we want to build and operate more nuclear reactors (e.g. for power), but it might also change some x-ray practices.

But, there are few things that are absolutely safe. You can slip, fall, and die in the shower; you can “poison” yourself by drinking too much water. When a medical professional requests an x-ray, they believe the risk is worth the reward.

I kinda understand the marriage thing. I don’t agree, but: marriage involves the state, so it is possible to find yourself under threat a violence from the state for not blaspheming your god(s) when the state changes what they consider a marriage.

Depends on who you ask. But, there’s plenty of people that believe strongly in a punitive system. Prison is primarily for punishment and retribution–the state empowering the (assumed) revenge desires of the victims. If there was a painless way to execute someone they wouldn’t want to use it; the suffering of the convicted is a feature, not a bug.

I agree with you that we should focus and rehabilitation and restoration, but the U.S. prison-industrial complex is not actually currently oriented with that being the primary purposes.

Yep, while I don’t use them myself, I saw the output of the latest models at the beginning of May. While there are some “good” things in it, the vast majority of the output was unnecessary maintenance load or just wrong. And, while the person showing off the output claimed they couldn’t have written the code, I didn’t see anything particularly special.

On top of that, I don’t believe the output of Qwen (or any other coding model) can be distributed without violating a large number of copyrights, so it’s entirely inappropriate for FOSS projects.

That doesn’t seem to work for me. I’ve dowloaded my driving playlist, and hit the toggle to only show downloaded tracks, but for some reason the Android app still wants to stream sometimes AND when it does it evidently deletes the downloaded version. I haven’t change the playlist in months, and I keep having to hit the download button, because one or more tracks is somehow no longer downloaded.

I have checked both my Qobuz and system-level storage allocation and availability. I’m no where near running out of either.

Yeah, I do wish I could disconnect those. I understand why someone would want a playlist to “follow” them across devices, but I don’t, usually. Right now, it’s the only way I can get the “DailyQ” to play on my laptop or desktop. But, if I could I’d keep the phone just on the few playlists that I have downloaded on it, and do streaming / exploration / auto-play / weekly shows on my laptop and desktop.

All of my musician friends (3) do all their paid music creation live, and aren’t on Spotify. So, they couldn’t tell me their motivation for being on Spotify is; none of them have ever complained about piracy.
