I don’t need just taxes on the wealthy, I want world wide wealth caps. Nobody should be able to own or have more than, say, 10 million in networth. Any income that comes after that limit goes 100% to taxes.
Then moving to a different state won’t help anything they will move somewhere that’s more friendly for rich assholes to bend and break laws like Texas.
Like I said I really don’t like Gavin but him passing this would only affect California it needs to be done at a federal level.
I agree it needs to be federal, and not just a one time tax.
However, them saying they’ll leave is a bluff. It’s been done before in other places and they didn’t really leave. Even after a couple did actually leave, the returns from the ones who stayed was still more than before.
Norway raised their wealth tax recently, despite the cries from rich people “being forced” to leave.
Some did in fact leave because of it.
But the tax revenue from the ones that remained more than made up for the lack of contributions from the ones leaving.
One news outlet described it as “turning a trickle into a stream”.
Fuck the petty cash trickles from the ones who don’t want to be here. Let them leave. They can go not pay their tax elsewhere. See how that works out for Texas or wherever.
