Which game have you been the most patient for (as in, delaying purchase)?

For me, it would have to be GTA V. I stopped playing games for years, then built a new rig in 2018. Since then I’ve played through GTA IV (well, I beat the story, and it was amazing), but I never played GTA V.

My plan is to purchase it and start playing it the day GTA VI is released, as I have enough other games to get through in the meantime.

It’s not been easy. There’s also Mass Effect, which I got around to playing last year — but that’s largely because I forgot about it after being patient about it for only a couple of years.

It was good, although its age really showed even compared to the sequel which I’d already played. Strong start to the series. They did some kind of remaster a few years ago which was what reminded me to try the original, so maybe that’s worth it if you don’t like old-game mechanics.

For me, it needs to go on an actual sale. I feel like it’s never really gone on sale, or at least not a relatively good one.

Like it’s always been at least $30+, and I’d like to get it for at least $20.

The dev is quite against the deep discount sales for Rimworld, it never drops below a few quid off. It is 100% worth it at full price however so take the plunge when you’re ready, you won’t regret it. I’ve got a good few hundred hours, it’s one of my most played games. I come back and start a new colony at least once a year or so. All the explanations are great and add something cool to the base game. I haven’t even looked at mods for it yet but there’s a huge scene for those.

I see it like Factorio. It started as a crowdfund/Kickstarter so selling it below the price the backers paid diminishes the trust the backers showed.

Imo that’s backwards. Who cares. The backers backed it because they believed in the vision, and now it’s been realized, so it’s done.

It’d be like getting mad that I bought a game full-price and then some time later it goes on sale.

Hell, I hope someone over there is reading this:

Considering your crowd-funded game’s MSRP floor as equal to a donation tier of said backers?

              Easy solve.

Announce the sale and follow immediately with “Backer’s Choice”: either a refund of the difference or a free copy to gift to someone.

Boom. Sales through the roof like beanstalks.

Now, go get me that golden egg, ya marketing spooks.🤌🏼

Still waiting for Microsoft Flightsimulator 2020 to fall to a price that’s worth it for the amount of time I would be playing with it.

And I’m still salty for the time they accidentally discounted it by 85 % and removed it from my shopping cart just as I was about to pay.

One of the nice things about Factorio is that you can finish a level and put it down and come back later. That’s harder to do with an RPG like Expedition 33 or Dragon Age.

Not a ton of plot. It’s mostly just a building sim.

How does one ‘finish a level’ in Factorio? I thought it was pretty open ended (until you launch a rocket)?

But I do get what you mean - it’s definitely harder to drop and return to a story based game.

I just played it recently for the first time. Took me about 50 hours from start to rocket launch (the win condition) in the default, recommended free-play campaign + a few more hours before that to go through the tutorial stages.

Haven’t tried the Space Age expansion yet, so not sure what to expect there on time commitment.

Haven’t tried the Space Age expansion yet, so not sure what to expect there on time commitment.

Massive increase in time commitment there.

You still start the same way, but now launching a rocket isn’t the end of the game … it’s just the end of the first act. Now you also build orbiting space stations and interplanetary spaceships (which require launching dozens of rockets to build), so you can go colonize 4 more planets, each with their own new challenges and new resources to gather and exploit. Each one of those can easily take just as much time to colonize as your original planet, if not more. You’ll need to build autonomous spaceships to regularly ferry supplies and finished products around the solar system to where they’re needed. Then finally build a big, badass spaceship capable of reaching the edge of the solar system, and that is the new win condition.

After playing Space Age, the original Factorio game seems like just a tutorial level.

They actually moved some of the base game content from the starting planet to other planets with the DLC. And you can transport things between planets to kick start your factory, so each new planet should take significantly less time than the starting planet. So it’s not really as long as playing through the whole base game then 4x more.

Still takes longer to beat but not like 5x. Closer to 2x for most people I think. Don’t be afraid. The interplanetary factory must grow.

Funny you should ask, I am actually playing Galaxy for the first time right now!

All I can say is that I really enjoyed Sunshine and will probably finish 100%ing it one day. With the patches I mentioned it feels about as modern as Galaxy (I suppose they are only five years apart). But better or worse? I can’t yet say. I love the “Fludd” mechanic and find it really satisfying in 60fps.

Ha! It’s a bit poorly named, but what the mod actually does is edit out most of the anime reaction sounds in the cutscenes. It’s surprisingly subtle - there are still plenty, but they’re placed where it makes sense instead of characters exclaiming with every slight movement they make.

The mod page has a comparison video with the base game that shows what I mean, but if the noises didn’t bother you then more power to you. Just be careful - I hear they can be contagious.

That’s likely wise. I played Civ 5 before any expansions and it was bad. So bad that it turned me off Civ games and I haven’t played one since. I’m sure they eventually figured it out, but I should have waited.

Same for Diablo 3. Played through the whole game to the endgame on release, waiting for it to be fun. It never was. Went back to PoE, Last Epoch, and others. I hear the expansion made it pretty good, but I’ve moved on. Diablo 4 isn’t as bad as D3, based on what I played in free play weekends, but it’s still a subpar Diablo-style game. It’s a shame they didn’t pursue Diablo 3 before they lost all the devs from Blizzard North that worked on D2. I played thousands of hours of D2, and I’m sad we’ll never get a true Diablo successor using the IP.

For what it’s worth, the final version of Civ V with the expansions is for me the best game in the franchise, even better than Civ IV. Maybe you should give it another chance.

I’ve been playing Civ games since III shortly before IV came out and they all seem to follow this pattern. VI was a mess on release, but now it’s actually pretty good though not as good as V.

I got the itch and played a campaign on 6 last week and was thinking about what 7 would need for me to buy it…and the answer is an expansion and a deep discount. The feature changed are kinda meh to me

My answer is probably Cyberpunk2077, I bought it on accident since it was in my cart on the day Silksong released. Luckily it was on sale at that time. Tried playing it on my ps4 pro and it was struggling so I put it aside and plan on playing it whenever I get a new console. So I started silksong instead which is ironically the first new game I bought in over 5 years.

The modding scene in general is really good. The only shame is that so many old classic mods got broken by the 2.0 update.
