So the damage to the pool already existed, it was widely publicized and many many people were out there observing and touching the water, yet you’re claiming this this individual somehow caused $1000+ in damages for touching tbe already peeling paint. Even if he yanked on it and more peeled off (which all indications are that he didn’t do that), that would still not constitute new damage since it wouldn’t peel unless already damaged before he touched it. So, yeah. Good luck making that stick.

They drove on it with heavy vehicles and an armored vehicle. Before they put the blue rhino liner on the lower liner. They video taped themselves doing it and had a press conference. The blue is coming off where they drove, and they had also just repaired seals inbetween concerte slabs right bwfore the motorcade parade.

That guy won’t get in trouble. The president damaged it and video taped himself doing it

The dudes already in trouble. Like yea he may not be convicted but thats besides the point. The charged individual now has to pay for lawyers to argue this, spend his time in court rather than working if he is employeed, deal with the emotional toll of being federally charged with something and the fear of fines and prison, and god knows what else from dealing with this. I wouldnt doubt some red hat enthusiast is gonna threaten him every day from now until the day he dies.

It is about scaring people into compliance not the outcome of the trial.

Today, a grand jury has returned a felony indictment against a defendant, David Hearn, for felony destruction of property, for which he faces 10 years in prison,” Pirro, a Trump appointee, said.

She proceeded to call the destruction of national monuments “one of the most offensive images” she has ever seen.

“This unchecked vandalism and civil disorder turns into criminal behaviour, and that’s why we’re here today,” Pirro said. “They are an affront to the dignity of our shared history.”

One journalist asked Pirro if her decision to seek a felony indictment was influenced by Trump, who wrote on Truth Social that a 10-year prison sentence should “be fully enforced” for any attempted damage to the Reflecting Pool.

“I didn’t charge anything harshly. I charge according to the evidence,” Pirro replied. She argued that Hearn caused damage exceeding $1,000, thereby necessitating a felony charge.

Talking about your insecure corrupt whiney babies. Of course this case won’t go anywhere, it’ll be thrown out in no time because no evidence at all, which is because the entire complaint is a lie to cover up the incompetence and corruption of trump and his pool buddy.

    USA! USA! USA!

I hate being cynical enough that this occurs to me but you could argue there is a speculative fortune to be made doing extremely legal things and getting arrested by this fascist regime - just for the eventual and essentially inevitable cash settlement.

Really the only speculative part is that there will be a functioning judicial system.

They’ll be getting out, too, but in the meantime, they are innocent people stuck in prison, where NOBODY wants to spend even a single day. I hope they survive the experience, it would be just like these Predators to put them in the worst prisons in America, then encourage the other inmates to hurt them.

The purpose was to frighten the rest of us into compliance, so having a few of them get murdered in prison will make that point even sharper.

ALL those responsible for this abomination should get life in the same prisons they sent these people.

Roll the video of trump driving over the uncured paint that never should have been filled with water for 30 days. Fat donnie needs to pay for the damage he did with his own money.

Take all of his money (and his family’s), throw him in prison, and have him work off the cost of this reflecting pool damage at like 17 cents an hour, picking up trash along the highway or cranking out license plates.

The grand jury that indicted him clearly think there’s enough evidence.

Trump and the administration have nothing to do with this.

well I mean yeah, they probably used something like the Chewbacca defense legal tactic. There’s no irrefutable defense against just making shit up until it sounds bad enough.

The democracy has been a joke for some time but now that they know they can do whatever with out consequences it’s pretty much done.

Grand juries will indict a ham sandwich. The prosecution is Trump’s DOJ, they 100% work for the administration. They also have a history of lying and violating the law when presenting to grand juries (where there is no defense allowed).

You have absolutely no idea how any of this works, so please do educate yourself before speaking.

The prosecution presents the “evidence” to the grand jury. There is no defense against that, and the prosecution can present the “evidence” however they’d like.

They could claim that he shot twelve small children before taking out a pocket knife and slashing apart the reflecting pool, and the grand jury would just have to accept that.

They are not getting a trial or a defense or having all evidence presented and accounted for.

This is a political stunt, nothing more. Once he goes to court, this will get either tossed out, or if it goes to trial and an actual defense lawyer gets a hold of it, the case is over. There is no case. This is 100% optics.

As the person above you said, you need to educate yourself before speaking. Your ignorance is what fascists prey on.

You are fundamentally not understanding how this all works and just repeating the one part you think is some sort of “gotcha”, like that makes you smart instead of what you’re really coming across as: a silly little kid/jackass who doesn’t even understand the basics of the US justice system and keeps antagonizing the people who do and are trying to explain it to you.
