im facing a moral conundrum. I got a guinness and a whiskey and a breakfast sandwich at a food counter in the airport. dude was busy and in the weeds and forgot he didnt charge me. so I just took it. My options are the following:

  1. Confess and pay.
  2. Just leave.
  3. Tip the counterperson €10 and say thank you.
  4. Tip the counterperson and say you forgot to charge me 🤫

what should I do folks quick my plane will be boarding shortly

Pay for it, if you don’t the wage slave behind the counter will have to cover it, or they may get fired for screwing up.

It’s not legal to take that out of their paycheck in the US. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen or they won’t be screamed at though.

If that places check out process is like every other eatery at an airport the check in and out process is madness so I suspect it happens often.

The staff member would probably just get a lecture and everyone moves on.

Since they’re using Euros it’s not the USA. Maybe OP should investigate this law in their area.

I’d probably just pay so I don’t have to think about it too hard but if you want to investigate further how it would affect the workers, I do agree that’s the main concern.

Yeah, fuck corporations but going to the eatery is entering a social contract. Don’t steal. Solve the problem in better ways.

it is not a moral issue.

    it’s a mistake they made.

just because you feel it is a big deal, doesn’t mean it is.

We’re probably going to have to wait for them to land before we get an update.

But, any restaurants I’ve worked in (USA) cannot force a cashier to cover any missing cash. If they are consistently short, they can get fired, or, if it’s an obscene amount that’s missing, they can be investigated for theft, but the cashier will not be paying for this guy’s sandwich.

2 is the only one that allows for not talking to anyone, so I would go for that.

I don’t see the difference between 1 and 4, but I like the way 4 is phrased so I’m saying you should do that. That’s what I’d do for a nice guilt free flight.

I also wouldn’t judge you for 2. While I can see who a cashier might have to cover a cash drawer that’s short, I don’t see how they’d have instant enough inventory controls to know “what’s missing.”
