This is honestly really lame of Nintendo. Just re-mastering their old games like this.
They’re just exploiting older gamers’ nostalgia for profits. Everyone is doing that and I hate it. It’s a form of manipulation.
I have no true evidence to back this up, just things I’ve personally noticed, I wonder if it has to do with the mentality of removing kids from the Internet, like, growing up, the only games I bought were ones that had recently game out, what I actively saw online, but if kids are being restricted, then they pivot to adults, which sequels tend to go poorly as the creators who made original games don’t often work on sequels anymore, whether corporate greed and profit chasing or burnout of devs, so they instead do remakes, nothing is substantially changed just graphics and what not, but there is less backlash from remakes then “faithless” sequels, not my word, just a trend word I see, so they just continue doing those, banking on nostalgia
Still better than just straight up selling the ROM of Pokémon Firered and Leafgreen for 20€, one for every language
That is up to The Pokémon Company.
They’ve been reselling people the same game on multiple VMs for years. They’ve been greedy for ages.
There’s a demo out for starfox. It’s definitely not just a remaster. I’d say I otherwise agree but I’d rather remakes than shitting out another title with BOTW jammed in for no good reason.
Yeah I’m waiting to see if it’s just a better looking Star Fox 64.
Star Fox has been ignored by Nintendo for far too long. It was one of my favourite games from the SNES and N64.
Give the demo a try if you can. It’s suuuper smooth, looks fantastic, they added a training course with in world connections, cutscenes tying courses together (they are skippable) which makes it feel much more interconnected and meaningful. There’s only 1 stage outside of training so we’ll see how much gameplay may or may not change, but they are adding some very nice polish. Also added mouse controls.
I don’t have a Switch 2 though. I don’t think I’ll be buying it. I already have a huge game collection, some of which I haven’t even played yet.
Are y’all really this excited for the re-re-re-release of a 30 year old game?

This comic strip is 20 years old.
How is there not a 4th panel for Skyrim enthusiast
Because this was 2006 and Oblivion had just come out (for the very first time).
Wait, are we actually supposed to get excited about OOT? Of course I’m looking forward to see how it looks and what they did to some enemy designs. But that won’t change its core, which is still OOT. If I had a S2 I’d consider getting it if they add a story expansion, but as it stands right now I have about 0 hype for this and kinda expected it to be the case for most people.
I never had a nintendo console beyond the NES until I got a switch as an adult since I ended up on the sega and then playstation. I missed out on many of these games. I know I could emulate them, and have done so for some games, but I never played OoT. I’m mildly hyped for a remaster/remake that uses modern control schemes and hopefully QoL changes.
I haven’t really looked into it, and it won’t be a day-1 purchase, but it’s on my radar.
i would like to be able to play OoT and MM with a normal controller sometime
I do get that, im just confused about the hype surrounding it. You can maybe take a look at Ship of Harkinian and 2 Ship 2 Harkinian then! Its a decompilation of the original games running at 120 FPS with Modding support and all sorts of enhancements.
New feature: now you can get the fairy to shut the fuck up by paying a microtransaction for it.
swipes credit card in Navi’s butt crack
It came out in '98. There is over an entire generation of gamers now who have never played it.
I don’t know the plan. If they’re angling to just milk nostalgia, probably no big deal. If the game stands on its own merit and people under 35 see it as just “the new Zelda game”, it doesn’t really matter if it’s a remake or not. That’s a big slice of the market.
Its 100% nostalgia. Unless they change quite a lot of how the game actually works, the game kinda sucks now.
It was beyond incredible for its time, and has earned its spot in the all-time hall of fame, but you won’t be able to get kids of today to actually enjoy it.
Yeah maybe. My nephews are absolutely obsessed w/ Mario 64 despite having basically every console.
Honestly, Mario 64 never resonated with me.
I’m not saying kids will like it, I’m just not as certain as you that they won’t. People went bananas for stardew valley, which is at its core SNES harvest moon. The right game in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
or people just like good games that capture their imaginations and are fun and rewarding to play.
and what makes a game good doesn’t really change with time. anymore that a good film or book or anything.
good shit lasts and is timeless. it speaks to people across time and cultures.
yeah not everyone likes it, but not everything is for everyone. But there is a reason we are still reading and talking about the Illiad 2000+ years later. and people will be playing Mario 64 in 50 years, just like they play the NES games today. NES Zelda is 40 years old and still a classic.
It’s a remake, not a remaster. It will likely have entirely new assets and a modern game design. Familiar but new
Yeah I agree, I even think nintendo’s has a bigger nostalgia market with parents who will buy it for their kids.
I think a lot (or at least a lot of the more vocal) older fans will realise that a ground up remake isn’t going to hit the same mark gameplay wise, a mixed bag no matter what for a game with a cult following like oot
Did you see the trailer? It’s impressive what they’ve done
You can really feel the thrill of discovery and exploration.
Also I am glad that Nintendo is finally taking a political stance wath that sentence at the end.
I think they’ll be including more lore and cut content, but thats just the vibes I got from the video
I’m not going to even bother pirating GTA6. I bought a switch to play tears of the kingdom and will play the sequel on it. Try harder Rockstar.
It won’t even be out on PC to be pirated for at least a year after it releases on consoles anyway.
I don’t know why it has to be a competition.
Because gamers have a finite amount of time and money? New releases are literally competing for both of those.
I’ll probably buy Zelda twice and GTA VI four times like I did with the previous generation.
I don’t know why fans need to make it a competition. Like, why does it affect you if Zelda succeeds over GTA or vice versa?
Right. And both companies are going to make bank anyway. The fact that AAA game companies are greedy assholes that want ALL the money instead of just LOT of money should not get gamer sympathy.
Tribalism, humans love this shit
Many people are on a budget. And with GTA probably being priced at 80+ dollar/Euro, it becomes an either/or thing.
There be ways to get it without spendin’ $80, matey.
last time i kicked a gamestop in the nuts i broke a toe though
Err… That not be the way I was thinkin’ of, but whatever suits ye best.
That usually doesn’t include multiplayer and I don’t think a majority know how to do that (safely).
That usually doesn’t include multiplayer
Even better!
Experience is much improved without multiplayer.
So if gamers have limited money, and a way to obtain games without giving the company money, why would a game company want to release a game at a time where there’s competition with another game? If they aren’t competing, people will more likely pay for the game. If they are competing, someone that pirates the game will probably not end up buying it afterwards.
If you release your years-in-the-making, multi-billion dollar, AAA-series game at the same time as a much smaller game that is just a remake of a very old game but has a MUCH bigger and much more loyal fan base on the same day, it could kill your first week sales which will usually set the tone for sales for the foreseeable future.
(Nintendo barely has to lift a finger to steal the thunder from something Rockstar has been spending years and years preparing for and making promises to stockholders about. Should be fun.)
All Zelda Games since 1986 combined have sold way less copies than GTA 5 alone (over 150 million vs. ~230 million). I feel like people are severely overestimating the size and impact of the Zelda fanbase. And this is in addition to the fact that they are not even available on the same platforms.
(I am saying this as a PC-only person who does not care about either titles.)
